Conditions For Use of Consensus

  1. The group needs to understand the process and agree to it.
  2. There needs to be a facilitator, clerk, or chairperson with both flexibility and firmness.
  3. The group should have a fairly high degree of homogeneity or bonding philosophy.
  4. People in the group should have some commitment to the on-goingness of the group rather than just to their own personal agendas.
  5. There needs to be a general assumption that everyone has something valuable to say.
